Breathy, electric, heart-pounding, hungry sensuality. Above all that's what PJ Harvey and, in particular, Is This Desire? represent in my my mind. Her songs are interchangeably mysterious, cathartic, and religious: complicated like "The Wind", voracious like "A Perfect Day Elise", piously hymnal like "Catherine". Harvey's sound is so unique to a particular feeling, glance, space, and time. Above all, Is This Desire? is a collection of outstanding songs that become even more appealing under one umbrella. There is a ebb and flow established within songs as well as the silence between. Kudos: What I would give for that voice: erotically androgynous and exquisitely divine. |
