The Secret Stars is the perfect avenue to match Geoffrey Farina's magical lyrics and guitar with something beyond indie rock. The sound here is more experimental that you'll find in Karate or his solo work, but just as moving. The reverberating hum of the theremin provides an interesting backdrop to an acoustic guitar. "Some Sinatra", the album's stand out tune, is both picturesque and painful; the closest pure literary elements come to music. However, there are times that the experimentation is overwhelming and leads to a disjointed string of songs. Kudos: Richly textured electric and acoustic guitar. |
