nitobe garden
27 August 1997

Today I lay sleeping in the Nitobe Garden... the symmetry was mesmerizing and lulled me into a deep trance. The koi continued to cause ripples in the pond but I was too tired to notice. I dreamt of puddles on my childhood street after a rainstorm... of story time in the midst of a thunderstorm... of hot tea and a good book... of losing a best friend. He brushed the hair away from my mouth and kissed it gently... his lips barely touching mine. I was reminded of physics and unbelievable truths and inconceivable experiments before I could realize the sincerity of his gesture and manage a slight smile of appreciation.
