When I was in seventh grade, I tried to make red clay bricks- I wanted to build a monument- but to what I can't remember. I folded ordinary Ohio earth into water, molded the mud into bricks, and set them in the sun to dry. And when I closed my eyes in anticipation, this is exactly what I saw.
