Brandon and I tried to think up all the things my "boot" money bought for the city of Washington.

"Maybe I planted some flowers outside the courthouse."

"Maybe you filled a pothole. Or paid part of a retired cop's disability pension."

"Maybe I bought a new swing for a public park."

"Or maybe you saved the orphanage."

"Saved the orphanage? It was a lot of money, but not that much."

"Maybe you paid their heating bill for a month. You know. Because no matter what time of year it is, orphanages are always cold."

"Even when it's 94º outside, but it actually feels like 100º?"

"Yes, even then. And they're always eating oatmeal."
