Kristen's direct quote: "Tell him I just love those boys.
I just love that little Chris and Roger. I will never grow out of them."
We walked into the Palladium minutes before the Less Than Jake set and took our places
on the higher tiers by the bar looking down on the milling crowd. Probably
in an effort to fit into the whole Bon Jovi scene, they have some new
backdrops consisting of flames and matches.
I was a bit disconcerted that Chris did not arrive in costume, and there did
not appear to be any costumed roadie wandering around the stage with toilet
paper guns, etc. The band had also gotten into the habit of segueing from
the end of one song right into a new one. This didn't seem quite right to
me.
As the show progressed, the boys finally came back to their senses and were
much more animated and talkative. Phew!
I believe they started off with "Magnetic North" off their new album and
played a good mixture of the old and the new. One of the highlights was
Chris trying to compete with the death metal band upstairs with "Gainesville
Rock City."
The pit was pretty full and they made a decent attempt at the circle dance
during one of the 3 non-encores.
All in all, it was a good show. We were showing our age by not even
venturing within 10 yards of the pit and by the ringing in our ears which
lasted for days, but the Less Than Jake boys had enough energy to go around. |
