Plumbers must love the internet...

More and more, I'm realizing that I enjoy not only what can be accomplished via manual labor, but also the process itself. Sure if I made a living holding a jackhammer all day, I'd have a different perspective, but I don't. Being a guy that sits at a desk for 8 hours a day, I look forward to the change of pace that good, old-fashioned work provides. Lately (and with ample opportunity as a new homeowner), I find myself laboring for hours without tiring physically or mentally. Yesterday I raked leaves for a couple hours, until it was too dark for any reasonable human to continue, and as I bent to put down the rake, I picked up a saw, to work on cutting wood trim for the fireplace surround and mantle I'm building. I've spent countless hours cutting, sanding, measuring, drilling, and assembling this thing, and while I can't wait for it to be done, I'm already lining up what's next, so I don't have a gap between projects. I'm physically addicted to work these days, and by "work" I don't mean my employment. This morning I woke up an hour early so that I could put a coat of primer on the fireplace

Of course it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see what's going on here... Some of the most common cliches address this issue... ones about greener grass, the spice of life, and plumber's wives. I wonder though, if everyone finds catharsis in manual labor, and I'm just slow catching on to this, or if plumbers really just love surfing the internet all night.

P.S. If you've got a couch you need to have carried up some steep, narrow stairs, you should call me while I'm still on this kick.

P.P.S. I hope it's a spiral staircase!
