It's easy to call our talkative Friday nights, when the batteries of on my cordless phone always, always
die, my favorite few hours of the week. But then this Saturday morning, sleepy and quiet, added a whole
new dimension to our weekly routine.

Laine and Kari called around dusk from Laine's stoop on the Upper West Side. They had a
stereo speaker pointed out Laine's window, a vanilla candle, and one beer each. I told them they seemed to
be having a genuine New York moment. Laine confirmed that people were definitely staring. I told her it was
without a doubt because of the vanilla candle.

I grabbed this life sentence from one of our favorite personal diary sites
and sent it in an email to Laine: "Sparklers come in pink." The only thing that could have made
it more suited for her was if it had been written on 07/05/01 instead of 06/29/01.

He prescribed a dosage of pain killers, a compress soaked in ice water, very soft
jazz, and to try not to think about anything until I feel asleep. But it was simply his tender care that
really relieved my aching head and made me feel like myself again.
