letters and numbers...
Laine called yesterday from the DMV. She'd been in line to renew her driver's license for an hour and a half... and figured she had another hour left to go. We laughed about the universality of the tricky letter/number system at the DMV and sheer lack of DMV offices compared to city population. This is one instance in which I feel that cell phones come in quite handy in public places. No one should have to go through that alone.

THE holiday...
I just plain love the Fourth of July. And what better place to be for it? My mother would probably argue that a better place to be would actually be Boston... but I can't say that in my five years there, I even once spent a Fourth within the city's limits. Then the Fourth was always about Acadia National Park and old Sphinx friends and sea kayaking and Bev's wonderful desserts. But this year it's about Rockland's barbecue and cornbread and making my way near the Mall later for spectacular fireworks.

Joy!
