Personal History
I don't know that I've ever read an autobiography before, but last night I couldn't put this one down. Fascinating. And in some ways I feel like this is my initiation to life in Washington.

planning...
dinner at Sen5es down in Georgetown with a few co-workers in town next Tuesday on business

ready for...
my columbus, ohio reunion weekend: dinner with Alejandro and Julia; manicures and a girls' night with Noel and Krista; lunch and conversation with Janet

clad in...
unflattering horizontal stripes

boycotting...
the news for one day-- at least until tonight when the President speaks

happy...
to have a mysteriously functional VCR again just before the season premiere of The West Wing

anticipating...
weekend brunches with Kate once our schedules calm down in October

ovenly challenged...
My adorable antique oven got so hot while I was baking loaves of bread for B and I that I managed to singe off a great deal of hair on my right arm. Sometimes I don't think I should have ever been allowed to graduate from the Easy-Bake Oven. I mean, how hot can a 40 watt light bulb get?

checking in...
I checked in with Kanani to find out how she and her Navy husband, Doug, are doing right now. They know a few people missing from the Pentagon and had a very good friend a few offices away from the crash site who crawled to safety on his belly. They aren't sure what Doug's role will be in what's to come, but she said, "This is what they do. And they'll go where they are needed."

How selfless an act. How heroic in a new age of redefined heroes. How safe it makes me feel.

My thoughts are with them.
