The house... then the birthday... then the trip to Aruba. It's been a while, huh?
In Aruba, we became fast friends with a couple from Palm Desert, CA who were on their honeymoon. It reminded me of
one of Jim's honeymoon weblog postings from Asia about the odd feeling of hanging out with other people
on one's honeymoon-- but that in the end, it was entertaining to pass some of the time telling your stories to someone
who had not heard them a million times before. Steve and I talked about constitutional law while B and Staci commanded the
pool table. While B and Steve talked real estate, Staci and I lost everything we brought to the table on roulette. And sunburn
misery loves company as we banded together to complain about the pain of sunburns on top of sunburns.
But now I gaze out the window at the March snow, thinking about Steve and Staci returning today to their desert home.
I'm sure some day soon, I'll start dreaming Coupland-esque dreams of visiting the desert once more. But for now,
the chilly snow offers up the slightest relief from my blistered pain. |
