When Laine's friend, David, emailed me out of the blue looking to dip into a little creativity and
offering up to whirlygirl his review of the revival production of Gypsy on Broadway, I was immediately
game. I mean, what girl whose past is littered with show choir solos and a high school production of 42nd Street
wouldn't be? I thought this was a very small way for me to fulfill my parents' dream of me performing on Broadway-- post someone
else's reviews about other people who perform on Broadway.
Before I even met David, Laine told me about his love for theatre (one show a week) turned I've-got-to-entertain-out-of-town-guests-which-show-should-I-take-them-to-see expertise (give him three characteristics of anyone and he'll match them to their
most perfect theatrical entertainment.) And then upon finally meeting him at Harry's 2001 Hanukkah gathering, I found him charming,
hysterical, and the active employer of one of my favorite quotes, "If you can't say anything good about someone, sit right here
by me." Fast friends.
So-- David, theatre, writing, whirlygirl-- this idea cannot fail. And after reading these reviews, I think you'll agree. |
