A simple Sunday dinner out found us at Central Kitchen in Cambridge and upstairs at Enormous Room for a few post-dinner drinks. Ever since we realized that we just missed the whole downtempo/chill DJ scene in Washington DC, we've been trying to find the "Eighteenth Street Lounge" equivalents in Boston-- and E.R. definitely qualifies. Sunday night was pretty chill-- we talked to Scottie, the bartender, listened to some Portishead and Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and egged on by strong scotch and Hendricks gin, got a might too confessional. We're planning a Friday night return so that B can scope the scene and chat up some DJs and strategize his very own DJ debut.
Pending some legal stuff that B needs to sort out-- lest he suffer many late nights worrying about the RIAA pounding down our front door to arrest him-- B is going to begin posting his whirlymixes here for download. He has quite an ear for what sounds good together and now-- thanks to endless hours searching and downloading on eMusic-- he has quite a unique collection from which to assemble fantastic ear candy. I have to admit that I was a little apprehensive about him bringing the likes of Kraak & Smaak into our library, but with my musical history, I really don't have a leg to stand on. |
